We’ve all been there. The alarm clock is going off and you’ve been hitting the snooze button for twenty minutes now. That glam outfit you had scheduled for today in your Hanger app just doesn’t seem like it’s gonna happen. You overslept so now you don’t have time to do your hair. You’re dreading getting out of your cozy bed. You haven’t had coffee yet and all you want to do is throw on leggings and a sweatshirt and toss your hair in a messy bun. Trust me, I get it. This is me pretty much five out of seven days of the week.
I’ve always been a firm believer that you should wear clothes that you feel comfortable in. If you have to wear three pairs of Spanx so that your dress looks great on you or wear a long sleeve under your sweater so it doesn’t itch, what’s the point? An outfit might look amazing on the mannequin and make you immediately fall in love with it, but if you can’t feel confident wearing it, it’s not worth it.
Sure I have days wear I love to dress up and I feel great doing it. If I wear a dress with heels, do I look and feel glam AF? Of course. But do my feet hurt? Absolutely. Am I worried about my dress blowing up in the wind? Constantly. Am I counting down the hours until I can go home and put my PJs and slippers on? 100%.
I promise you there is a middle ground where you can feel both stylish and comfortable all at once. When I’m in a comfortable outfit, I feel like I can conquer the day. These are some of my favorite ways that I make my outfits more comfortable and I hope they speak to the comfort creature in you!
On those days when I feel like I just can’t, the thing that makes me want to roll out of bed the most is throwing on my favorite, comfiest sweatshirt. I’ve never been a huge fan of the way my long hair gets stuck in hoodies, so crewnecks are always my go-to. There’s absolutely no point to wearing an obscenely oversized sweatshirt with nice pants, so throw on your favorite pair of leggings and boots to pull your comfortable ensemble together. If you’re still feeling like a total hobo and don’t think you can face the world this way, add some badass accessories that will fool people into thinking you spent hours putting together the perfect outfit. Sure, maybe the beanie is covering up a bad hair day and those shades are helping you block out the haters, but now you look like a boss babe and no one will question your style, they’ll only envy your comfort!
Big Sweater & Ripped Jeans
Something very important to remember is that there’s a key difference between wearing comfortable outfits and looking like a bum. Save the sweatsuits for home, there’s no room for groutfits here. But don’t get me wrong, there is definitely a way to find a happy medium that will make you feel stylish and comfortable all at once. I always try to mix and match the most comfortable items in my closet. For example, if I’m going to wear a big comfy sweater I’ll match it with ripped jeans instead of leggings. This goes the other way as well, if I’m wearing a top that is a little nicer and has more structure, I’ll feel more comfortable matching that with leggings. It’s all about finding what works for you! It’s important to wear what makes you comfortable and feel like a badass all at once.
I don’t actually know what these things are called but I know you all know what I’m talking about. I’m sure you’ve seen the sweaters and workout jackets that have these flaps in the front that look sort of like a turtleneck that lost its shape or a hoodie that forgot which way the hood is supposed to go. Either way, let me just tell you how magical these are – whatever you want to call them. Whenever I wear something with one of these frontal-reverse hoods, I immediately feel cozier. I’m so glad that the turtleneck trend has transitioned into this because when I wear a big sweater with one of these hoods I still get that turtle neck vibe, but it’s not as tight on my body like traditional turtlenecks are. I feel comfortable in my outfit while also feeling like I’m killing the game with my trendy fashion – and that’s the dream right there.
Blanket scarves are one of my favorite winter fashion staples. They make great accessories in the fall, but to me they are a necessity when it gets below freezing outside. I will say that sometimes these feel like a pillow for your face, so make sure to be aware of your surroundings. You don’t want to be caught taking a nap in your scarf in the middle of a meeting. Trust me…been there, done that. But for real, there is a reason these are called blanket scarves. They are so warm! In the fall, I can wear them with a simple top and they will spice up my outfit. I also love wearing them in the winter because they add a great pop of color to my black winter coat. There’s a million reasons to love blanket scarves, but these are just some of my faves. Get a blanket scarf for yourself and I guarantee you’ll create some reasons to love them yourself!
It’s no secret that coffee is the best accessory to any outfit. With a coffee in my hand and the caffeine flowing through my veins, I feel like I can pretty much conquer the world. Even when it’s cold AF outside and all I want to do is a hide in a blanket and curse at Mother Nature, a nice warm coffee is just what I need to comfort me and help me forget it’s freezing outside.
Flannel and a Baseball Hat
There’s nothing better than a soft and cozy flannel on a chilly day. There are so many ways to wear a flannel! But one of my favorites is keeping it casual. I like to keep my flannels unbuttoned so I normally add an extra layer and wear a simple v-neck underneath. On those days when my hair does not want to cooperate with me I love to put it in a ponytail and wear a baseball hat. Even though I’m super comfortable, I look and feel relatively polished and put together! This look is great for running errands or just hanging out with friends on low-key days.
This is another one of my favorite outfits items! I have drawers full of graphic tees and tanks. They’re mega comfy and a lot of them have funny sayings on them and I love feeling super witty and clever when I wear them. Since they are more casual, I love to throw a nicer cardigan over them. If you’re feeling extra fancy you could even swap out the leggings for your favorite pair of jeans. While I may not wear this to work, this a great outfit for your day off if you’re out and about with friends.
Cozy at Home
Of course there are those lucky days when you don’t have anything on your to-do list. On days like this it’s okay to hang around in your comfiest outfits. Binge on your favorite Netflix show and plan out your outfits for the week on your Hanger app. All things you can do from the comfort of your own living room!
While I know that it’s not always appropriate in every environment to wear leggings and sweatshirts, it’s important to be comfortable in your own clothes! Find what makes you feel comfortable and confident all at once and tag us in your posts!
