Today I woke up from my sister barging into my room asking me, “Have you heard about David Bowie?!”
I shot up from my bed, and through squinted eyes I looked quizzically at her , “No, what are you talking about?”
“He died, Sis. David Bowie is dead.”
“Wait, is this a joke?” and as I rubbed my eyes to help focus on her face I could see the sadness as she shook her head,”No, this isn’t a joke, Kasper”.
My heart broke. “What happened?”
“Apparently he had cancer and lost his 18 month battle yesterday.”
But he just put out an album; he just had a birthday!
This weekend I literally thought to myself, “I just can’t imagine a world without David Bowie.” and yet here we are, folks, he’s actually gone.
Today as I struggled to comprehend his passing, it brought me peace and joy to know that I lived in a time when Bowie roamed this planet. So, in honor of the many gifts he left behind I wanted to reflect on the amazing impact he had on fashion and how he inspired a world to be nothing but our unique selves! He was often referred to as a ‘gender-bending fashion icon’, known for pioneering androgynous fashion. I couldn’t agree more!
Bowie’s influence on the fashion world for both men and women is still going strong – even in the past three years.
And there we have it, the inspiration and the inspired. It’s amazing what things can happen when exposed to the right people, music, art, and fashion. David Bowie’s iconic style – and his music – will live on to inspire generations of fashion forward trailblazers.
