It’s time for the pre-Hanger Style Check where we help you reassess your style and the clothes and accessories that express it.
Before we begin: Open up your dream closet on Pinterest or hop over to your favorite fashionista’s feed on Instagram and take note as to the styles you have been really digging.
How does this style make you feel?
What does it say about you?
Does your current wardrobe reflect that style?
Before we get started, you’ll need three piles: donate, sell, and toss. You may also need a cocktail…. Okay, now you’re ready!
Phase One: The Quick Cleanse
・Love it!・Not sure?・Hate it!・
We can categorize everything we own into these three categories.
The “love its” are those pieces that make us feel great. They express our style and we feel confident wearing them.
The “not sures” are one of two things: (1)They’re pieces that we think are cute, but they just don’t really fit our personal style and aren’t flattering on us. Or (2) they’re untapped potential, meaning, we just haven’t found the right pieces to pair with them to create the perfect outfit. The latter is an easy fix which we’ll address in part three.
We all know the “hate its”. Those are the things that live in our closet that we shove to the back that just take up space because we’ve been too lazy to remove them thus far. The “hate its” are the easiest to start with. Skim your rack for the hate its tonight and throw them into their respective boxes – donate, sell, or toss.
Don’t feel bad about getting rid of these clothes. Keeping them locked up in your closet does you no good. You’re giving them a chance at a new life with someone who appreciates them and loves them for who they are.
When you’re deciding which box an item belongs in, don’t resort to the toss box just because you think “nobody would ever wear this”. If an item is wearable, someone will wear it! Donate it. This a such simple way to help someone else out. The only items that belong in the toss box are things that are beyond wearable, along with all the miscellaneous junk you’re bound to find in there if it’s been a while since the last cleanse.
Imagine being able to say “Alexa, ask Hanger to find a pair of shoes and a small purse to go with my Kate Spade dress for this weekend” and instantly getting recommendations from your favorite brands on your phone or nearest display.
