The Hanger team recently returned from the Collision conference in Las Vegas where we previewed the Hanger personal stye app for the first time. The application will release to beta in late June, so the time was right to begin spreading our wings and our message – that consumers need visibility into their closets to make better decisions about what they wear and what they buy.
The trip was a familiar one for many on the team. Vegas is rarely a stranger. It was a quick return for our founder, Daniel Evans, who had been in town for the Gartner Business Intelligence and Analytics summit a few weeks earlier. Along with Daniel, the Hanger Vegas team included Ed Kniep, Chris Youngren, Kasper Woldtvedt, Kelly O’Neil. As this would be the first time Hanger was seen in public, we wanted to make a strong statement about the strength of our team and the experience they bring to the table.
The two-day conference began Tuesday, but the fun began Monday night with a kickoff party at downtown Vegas’ new Container Park. Daniel, Kasper and Kelly were the first to arrive and it didn’t take long for Daniel and Chris Voss, of the Chris Voss Show, to strike up a conversation in the drink line. Chris quickly understood the value of Hanger and told his 160k twitter followers as much the next day (thanks Chris!). By the end of the night, the team had met entrepreneurs from Germany, Canada, Switzerland, and India.
Tuesday was opening day of the conference. Since Hanger was set to present on Wednesday, the team spent the day attending talks and visiting the other presenters at Collision. The most interesting point of the day came over lunch at the Jamaican Jerk Chicken food truck, when Daniel, Ed and Chris bumped into the leadership team from one of the most successful private consulting firms in the U.S. We don’t want to jinx it, so we’ll leave the name quiet for now, but we’re excited for the potential that meeting could bring for GarbShare.
Wednesday was our day – time to show off Hanger. Kasper and Kelly manned the stand for most of the morning and did a fantastic job of engaging visitors and telling our story. With the conference suggesting most visitors will stay just a couple of minutes, we saw nearly every visitor stick around for 15-20 minutes and ask lots of questions. It didn’t take long for discussions to turn from “cool idea” to “let’s partner” and “can we use your API”.
The consulting company leaders came by for a more in depth discussion and to view the demo. Gilt.com came by and wanted to learn more about our model and how it might fit into their business. Chris fielded technical questions from a number of potential partners looking to leverage our API for their business. Meanwhile, Daniel continued to paint the vision for Hanger throughout the day, meeting a variety of business leaders and entrepreneurs who quickly understood the value of our product and the benefits for our customers.
It was an exceptional day for the team and an great opportunity for the company to finally show off a bit of the hard work we’ve been doing.
Here’s a few of our favorites from the conference:
Alugha – Bernd Korz and his team have a great application that let’s you change language on video without having to reload the page. We’re excited to see them again soon at the Bread and Butter festival in Germany.
NailSnaps – Kasper and Kelly loved the ladies behind this company that allows you to create custom nails from your photos. Kasper has already ordered ones with the GarbShare icon on them.
TriMirror – Dan and Ed were captivated by their demo which allowed avatars to try on clothes and see how they lay. You could even pull on the item to see how it reacts, or see how it flows as you walk. They’re targeting small clothing boutiques to allow people to see how clothes might fit before you buy. Founded by a father and daughter, they seem to be genuine people working really hard for their dreams.
Cheeky Monkey Media – We met Rick Bjarnason and his wife on Monday night. His firm is a leader in Drupal development and really great people. If you’re looking for Drupal help, give them a shot.
