Here at Hanger, we love our Interns soooo much and we want you to love them, too! Meet Marisa Alu and McKenzie Clark – two college gals who are spending their fall hanging with our style crew. We asked each of them to describe themselves and answer a few questions so you can get to know them better!

Marisa Alu

Marisa Bio

Marisa is a digital marketing intern at Hanger this fall and beginning her last semester of college at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She’s studying Mass Communications and set to graduate in December 2016. Outside of school and work life, Marisa loves to read, write, drag her friends to scary movies, and sing in the car. She’s also a big fan of wine, chocolate, and the St. Louis Blues. Marisa would love to someday move to a big city and travel all over the globe to experience different ways of life!

Q: How do students dress for class on your campus?

A: Most students on my campus gravitate towards casual dress to class. The typical outfit is usually some variation of oversized shirts, sweatshirts, Nike shorts, and leggings. While there is the occasional sighting of a well-dressed student, it’s more sporadic to their personal schedule, aka what week(s) of the semester they realize they’ve worn the same pants 11 times in two weeks.

Q: Where do you find style inspiration?

A: I typically find style inspiration from websites such as Pinterest or Polyvore. I’m not a big window shopper, so this allows me to think up exactly what I’m looking for before I go out and buy.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about Hanger?

A: I like the idea of shopping in your own closet. Half of the time, I could save myself money by searching through what I already own that I’ve forgotten about. It feels more efficient and organized than sifting through your clothes by hand.

Q: If you could have anyone’s closet in your circle of Hanger friends, who would it be and why?

A: My younger sister syndrome is about to become so apparent, but I would honestly steal my sister’s closet in a second if I could. Borrowing her clothes always makes me feel a little like Beyoncé, even if it’s just a t-shirt.

Q: What is the proudest moment of your life so far?

A: My proudest moment would have to be successfully making the transition from living at home in high school to living on campus at university. I have always been extremely close to my family and very comfortable in what I’m used to, so pushing through the hard times that came with being responsible for myself and creating my own life in a new environment made me feel stronger and fulfilled.

Q: Tell us a fun fact about yourself!

A: I’m a huge klutz; I’ve fractured/sprained my ankle 4 times and broken both wrists at the same time!

McKenzie Clark

McKenzie Bio

This fall McKenzie is one of Hanger’s digital marketing interns, helping out with blogs and social media. When she’s not at Hanger, she’s either in classes for her senior year at SLU, hanging out with her roommates and sorority sisters, on Pinterest searching DIY projects and European adventures, or binge-watching a Shonda Rhimes show on Netflix. Her favorite thing about marketing is when a brand has a strong presence and is consistently aesthetically pleasing. McKenzie would consider herself a proud Clevelander and die-hard Cleveland Cavaliers fan, a Harry Styles enthusiast, and a professional napper.

Q: How do students dress for class on your campus?

A: There are two types of students on my campus. You either are well-dressed and put together for class or you roll out of bed in a t-shirt and shorts or a hoodie and leggings. There’s no in between!

Q: Where do you find style inspiration?

A: There’s inspiration all around us! I get a ton of inspiration from what my friends, coworkers, and people I see on campus are wearing. I also love keeping up with what my favorite celebrities wear and reading fashion magazines about the latest trends. My favorite is StyleWatch because they really adhere to a college-student budget. They explain the latest trends, show you how to wear them, and also tell you where you can buy them for cheap! Lastly, following my favorite retail stores and brands on Instagram really helps to see how I can put together outfits with clothes I already have and love!

Q: What’s your favorite thing about Hanger?

A: I am not a morning person whatsoever and I love that Hanger helps me cut down my morning routine by finding me something to wear quickly. I also love anything and everything organized and Hanger is like a color-coded planner for your closet! Something any OCD person like myself can appreciate.

Q: If you could have anyone’s closet in your circle of Hanger friends, who would it be and why?

A: I have always adored Mindy Kaling and I love all the fun outfits that she wears on her show, the Mindy Project. She’s not afraid to try bright colors and fun patterns and she always looks glam in absolutely anything she wears. I really admire the uniqueness and personality she shows through her fashion.

Q: What is the proudest moment of your life so far?

A: I spend a semester abroad in Madrid, Spain and traveled to 3 continents, 9 countries, and 24 cities — including a six day solo trip to Israel! I came back with $5.67 in my checking account but it was worth every penny.

Q: Tell us a fun fact about yourself!

A: I danced from age 5-18 and the most important skill I got out of my experience was from a Mary Poppins dance where I learned how to spell supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
