Real Men Have Style Event was co-hosted by Saks 5th Avenue St. Louis and Saint Louis Fashion Fund last night. Six local designers were asked to reimagine a Cardinals jersey that would be auctioned off that night. Hanger’s own Fashion Engagement Manager – Kasper (moi…) – was one of the privileged designers!
I literally had no idea what to expect with this event when I was invited to create a jersey for Real Men Have Style, but a few of my closest friends were going to be attending so I was guaranteed a good time with them at the very least. Klenke (Hanger’s Product Manager) and I got to Brewhouse a little early, shocking I know, so we sat at the bar, grabbed a drink and watched as people entered the event.
There was a specific person that stopped me in my tracks. I couldn’t help but give him and his partner the ‘up-down’ – they were perfect. One was wearing a beige, white and black Union Jack sweater with an amazing pair of black wax jeans and to finish it off, black leather sneaks with just enough hardware to give them a touch of punk. From that moment I knew I was going to have a great night.
What was I wearing, you ask? My very first Michael Drummond dress. It’s a simple print of Sarah Stallmann’s arms – #heardofher – you know, the Fashion Editor of Alive Mag, we’re actually friends so I thought it would be fun to surprise her with the trippy dress. Crazy enough, I ordered it before we went and got tattoos together so the dress is missing our #GucciKrew tats but still, rad.
(check out my tat here too – yes Trevor Andrew – @troubleandrew – reposted it!)
The goal of this event was to raise money for the St. Louis Fashion Incubator, a launchpad for fashion and design in the city. Since they chose me as one of the designers to reimagine a jersey for auction (and let me clarify – I am not a designer, I’m a spiker), I did the only thing I actually know how to do I spiked the hell out of a Molina Jersey.
Then – KISMET – My jersey was being auctioned, bidding started at $250 and before I knew it, SOLD. Who? It was the guy! The one I saw at the beginning of the night. I was so happy. Later that evening one of the designers came up to me and asked, “Are you the girl that did the spiked jersey?”
“Well the guys that bought it want to meet you.”
Over walked Joshua and Darryl. I told them about my initial reaction to their looks when they walked into the event, and that I was so stinkin’ happy that they won the jersey. More importantly, I expressed how flattered I was that they saw the value and felt inclined to even bid! We snapped a pic and moved on with our night.
After lots of intros and hugs the night was over. We left with our goodie bags from Saks who sponsored the event and like any night spent in heels. I went home, made some tea and put my feet up.
May I just end this by saying, St. Louis is really lucky to have the network of people that were present that night. It was really cool to experience two worlds, sports and fashion, collide especially after the magic of opening day!

I just stared at all of the money I spent. All of the ideas I didn’t see through. Visually facing my carbon footprint forced me to start letting go.
How packing up my entire apartment before moving led me to reevaluate all of my spending choices and challenged my perspective of fashion, style, and individuality.
