You’ve made it to the final stage of your spring closet cleanse! During part one, we did a quick cleanse to remove everything we hated from our closets and during part two, we talked shoe organization and cleared out any shoes we don’t wear or don’t need. Whew! You are now in the home stretch! Hopefully you have a friend lined up who knows your style, a killer playlist is ready go, and maybe a little champagne in the refrigerator to celebrate when you’re finished!
Remember that if you’re taking the time to revamp your style, or define it, or redefine yourself, it’s important to have a way to maintain this new style. Don’t let this spring style check be a huge shopping splurge with no way to organize what you need, what you should buy, or how you should go about this new or redefined style of yours. It’s time to take control of your style and that means being able to manage your closet. So follow along and we’ll help you keep up with that!
During your shoe cleanse last week, you started a list of items that you actually need to invest in for spring including colors, styles, and any other notes that will help you next time you’re out shopping. This week, we will add clothing pieces to that list.
We also talked about three questions that will help guide your cleanse! So again — think about your lifestyle and answer these three questions:
- What items do you like to wear most?
- What items do you need to wear? (Does your job require certain clothes? Or an activity you regularly participate in?)
- What items are you constantly wishing you had every time you face your closet?
With these questions in mind, let’s get started!
PART THREE: THE REAL DEAL
Pull everything out of your closet piece by piece and separate into two piles. Pile one is the love it pile. Pile two is the not sure pile.
When everything is pulled out of your closet and you feel like your room is a hot mess, don’t freak out. We promise you will be better than when you started off and you WILL get it all back in there without dying. If this is the time where you need to pour yourself a cocktail, that’s okay, we give you permission. Owning this much stuff is stressful.
Okay so let’s start with the easy part – let’s put all the loves back in. As you’re putting the loves back in, first snap a quick picture of each of them! This is the first step to maintaining your closest once it’s back in shape. Organize them the way that best fits your lifestyle. For example, separate them by clothing type (dress, pant, top, etc.) and then by occasion (dressy vs. casual). Here’s how I have mine: special occasion dresses, everyday dresses, dressy tops, everyday tops, dress pants, casual pants, t-shirts, jackets, and sweaters/cardigans/blazers.
Next, walk through the not sure pile. What you need to remember here is that if you’re not sure – it’s either because it’s not your style, or you don’t have anything to pair it with. A good rule to apply as you clean your closet or even when out shopping, if you can’t answer the question, “Do I love this?” with a resounding “YES!” then don’t buy it.
Whatever you determine is indeed your style, make an outfit with it. This will ensure that you will actually wear these items and they won’t sit in your closet taking up space again for the next year without being worn. Take a picture of each of these items.
It’s time to download the Hanger app and digitize your closest! Upload all the photos of the clothes you put back in your closet. Now go lay on the couch with your champagne and let the fun begin! It’s time to create outfits so you can keep track of what you’ve just paired together. No more closet chaos!
The last piece to being ready to rock your style this spring would be to shop for any necessities you have on your list. Spend a little time using your Hanger app first because it will help you remember all you already have, and once you’ve done that – hit the mall with your closet in pocket and check off those needs from your list. You now have your closet in your pocket (so exciting, I know!) and you can instantly pair potential pieces with the items you already own to make sure they’re worth it before you get them home.
Inspire your friends' style by connecting closets and creating outfits on the Hanger app.

Here’s to the season of giving! May we all give more than just another gift this year.
I’m ready to go full cable knits, jeans and combat boots and then Mother Nature is like, “Ha! Here’s a 90-degree day for that cute fall outfit you planned to wear today,” and I’m forced to dip back into my summer stuff.
Your bestie just got engaged and you’re so happy for her, but now the pressure is on to make this the time of her life.
Last minute Father’s Day gifts that will also help dad out a little in the style arena. Making style suggestions via gift is much easier than trying to reason with him to change his clothes before leaving the house next time.
You taught me a lot of lessons growing up, like how to use a hammer, how to change my tire, and how to keep the boys away. But of all the lessons you taught me, my favorite is one that no instruction manual could have provided.
If someone called you now and said pack your bags we’re leaving on vacation tomorrow, could you be ready? Or would sheer panic set in because your mind immediately goes to OMG I have nothing to wear? Here’s how Hanger freed me from last-minute vacation-packing panic.
