Tis the season to be
jolly grateful, fa-la-la-la-la. November has just begun, which means that holiday season is at its peak and all of our diets are about to take a big hit. All joking aside, I think it’s very important to focus on all of the things we have been #blessed with, especially amongst all the chaos in the world right now. Here are some things that never get enough credit that deserve some love.
Elastic waistbands are a gift from the heavens any time you realize you can still breathe after a meal. They’re especially great this time of the year, what with the turkey, yams, crescent rolls, mashed potatoes, gravy, crescent rolls, pumpkin pie, crescent rolls… did we mention crescent rolls? Because of the fantastic invention of the elastic waistband, those are the only rolls you’ll have to worry about this holiday season.
Because life just isn’t like a Victoria’s Secret commercial.
The Slouchy Sweaters & Leggings Trend
God bless whoever made it possible to wear a comfy sweater with an even comfier style of pants (yes, leggings are pants). It’s roomy, relaxed, and basically the more fashionable outfit equivalent of sweatpants and a hoodie.
I’m personally so grateful for the gem that is waterproof mascara, eyeliner, setting spray, etc. Maybe it’s just me, but I basically can’t be in any place crowded without heating up. Whether it be a bar or a family party, my chances of the dreaded raccoon eye are tenfold. But with lifesavers like the waterproof ingredient, we’re all free to continue looking put together while our relatives grill us on our relationship status or we watch a really great Hallmark holiday movie.
Nobody likes to wear KEDs, Converse, or short booties with their socks sticking out of the top. It somehow ruins the look. With ballet socks, you can effectively pull it off without killing your achilles.
What did people do before dry shampoo? Did they ever get to hit snooze on the alarm clock? Luckily, we don’t have to worry about that anymore with this magic spray available at any local drugstore.
If there were no tweezers in the world, we would all have to invest in regular eyebrow waxes. That one pesky hair that comes in earlier than the rest and ruins your perfect arch would be stuck there until the next time you could afford to hit up the salon. Just think about that for a second. Now go say thank you to your Tweezerman.
Make-Up Remover Wipes
Washing your face is extremely important to having healthy skin. But we’ve all had those nights when we’ve been a little too tired to wait for water from the faucet to hit the perfect degree of warmth. Make-up remover wipes are the heroes of this story.
Gloves never get enough love. Why is that? We use our hands every single day no matter what, and gloves keep them from feeling like sandpaper during the winter. Not only are they cute, comfortable, and cozy, but they now allow you to work your smartphone without sacrificing your hands to temporary frostbite.
Last but certainly not least- chapstick. Most of us have at least one tube and the few who don’t are always asking to borrow one. Chapstick is the lip’s always reliable best friend. It may not be the classy friend that matte lipstick is or the fun friend like lipgloss, but it’s the one we will always come back to, no matter what. Gift to men and women alike, chapstick is to thank for all of the cracked lips we didn’t have and the successful kisses we did.
Between all the feasts, presents, and wine this season, don’t make the mistake of forgetting to be thankful for the things that matter, both big and small. So thank you to all of the items above that I often forget to give praise, for keeping me from looking like an extremely hot mess.
